Bibles for St. Jean Baptiste students in Haiti

Some members of our church recently went to Haiti to visit the school of St. Jean Baptiste.  When I heard there was a group going, I wanted to make sure they were able to get Bibles to some of their students.  After talking it though, we decided it would be best to purchase the Bibles in Haiti (to support the local economy and be able to provide the correct translations.)

They were able to purchase French Bibles in the town of Les Cayes.  They took them back to the school and were able to give them to all the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who didn't have a Bible.  It turned out there were 20 kids in those grades who were blessed with Bibles.

Below is a picture of some of those students.  The one standing up is sharing her favorite Bible passage, Psalm 23, which she had memorized.

Here we go!

For the past couple of months, my kids have been very adamant about giving Bibles to kids that don't have any.  We have discussed it in great detail, as I want this to be THEIR project.  After many questions and ideas, they have decided what our first steps are going to be.

  • They want to bless kids with Bibles in different countries since many of them don't have Bibles in their own language.
  • Our first donation will go to kids at St. Jean Baptiste School in Haiti.  Our church has a team that goes there 2 times a year, so they thought that would be a good place to start.  This first trip, we are going to bless all of the 6 graders with new Bibles.
  • We are going to collect donations so we can continue to support different schools in different areas so more children have the chance to learn about God.
    • Our first approach at this is just by telling people what we are doing and asking for donations.  The kids made a flyer that they can hand out to their friends.

So, those are the basics.

This past weekend, we gathered our piggy banks and took all of our change to the bank and opened a bank account where we can save money for more donations.

If you feel like contributing, please hit the donate button on the right of your screen.  You can also write a check made out to Melissa Larson.  100% of all donations will go towards the purchase of Bibles.
